Building Tunisia’s Bioinformatics Community: ABI Supports First Tunisian Bioinformatics Conference

The first Tunisian Bioinformatics Conference, held from 26–29 October in Sousse, marked an important milestone for Tunisia’s growing bioinformatics community.

Organised by ATDOCS, the four-day conference brought together researchers, students, clinicians, industry representatives and technology specialists to explore the evolving role of bioinformatics in Tunisia and beyond. The programme showcased work spanning genomics, clinical bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, sequencing, computational infrastructure and emerging biotechnology, while creating opportunities for researchers at different stages of their careers to connect and exchange ideas.

The African Bioinformatics Institute (ABI) was proud to support the inaugural conference as a Gold Sponsor. As part of its support, ABI provided registration and accommodation for a number of student participants, helping to ensure that emerging researchers could take part in the meeting and connect with the broader bioinformatics community.

Supporting access to scientific networks and opportunities is an important part of ABI’s commitment to strengthening bioinformatics capacity across Africa. By supporting locally led initiatives such as the Tunisian Bioinformatics Conference, ABI is helping create stronger connections between researchers, institutions and communities across the continent.

The success of this inaugural meeting reflects the growing momentum behind bioinformatics in Tunisia and provides a strong foundation for future collaboration, knowledge exchange and capacity development.
